Woolacombe

A three mile stretch of golden sand known for it's Atlantic breakers. With family-friendly facilities, ample parking and local surf schools catering for all ages and skill levels, it’s no wonder this beach is a favourite for both locals and visitors.

Westward Ho!

2025 Blue Flag Award. A popular surf beach attracting surfers of all abilities. Local surf schools offer lessons and equipment hire, while the beach is also favoured by bodyboarders and windsurfers. The surf is also home to wild sea bass, drawing anglers from across the country.

Torre Abbey

2025 Blue Flag Award. The calm, shallow waters are ideal for swimming, paddling and snorkelling which is great for families with young children. Equipment hire is available nearby, catering to both beginners and seasoned enthusiasts.

Teignmouth

A classic British seaside destination, renowned for its long stretch of golden sands, traditional Victorian pier, and vibrant promenade. The beach is a favourite among families offering a blend of relaxation and recreational activities.

Swanpool

Located on the outskirts of Falmouth, is this charming sandy cove with a backdrop of lush greenery and the Swanpool Nature Reserve. Popular with families, swimmers and paddlers, it also attracts walkers and nature lovers.

Sugary Cove

Perched at the mouth of the River Dart, just a short walk from Dartmouth Castle this secluded beach is nestled between cliffs and trees. This hidden gem is popular with walkers, nature enthusiasts, and locals seeking a tranquil spot away from the crowds.

St Mary's Bay

A tranquil and unspoiled seaside experience with its sandy shores, clear waters, and stunning coastal views. Access is challenging and there are no facilities here, making it an ideal spot for those looking to escape the crowds.

Slapton Sands (Monument)

A stunning and historically significant shingle beach that stretches for three miles along Start Bay. Popular with families, walkers, anglers, and history enthusiasts, the area is also home to Slapton Ley, a large freshwater lake which is a haven for wildlife and nature lovers.

Sedgewell Cove

Part of the wider Bigbury-on-Sea Beach, this sandy cove offers gentle waves making it popular for swimming, paddleboarding, windsurfing, and kite surfing. Those seeking surf conditions often head to Bantham Beach across the estuary.

Sandymere

A stunning, unspoiled stretch of sand and pebbles, backed by dunes and the unique coastal landscape of the Burrows. A popular surf spot, benefiting from the same Atlantic swells as Westward Ho!

Sandy Bay

A stunning sandy retreat backed by high cliffs. At low tide, the beach extends all the way to Exmouth, creating a vast stretch of golden sand perfect for families. Located at the foot of Devon Cliffs Holiday Park, with various facilities and amenities, makes this a lively spot during peak seasons.

Preston Sands

2025 Blue Flag Award. Known for its clean, safe environment, it's a favourite among families, sunbathers, and those seeking a traditional seaside experience. Backed by a spacious grassy area ideal for picnics, games, and relaxation. The shallow waters are perfect for children and low tide provides rock pools for exploration.

Porthgwidden

This sheltered sandy cove with gentle waves are ideal for children and less experienced swimmers and paddling and snorkelling. Convenient access, nearby facilities, and seasonal dog-friendly areas make this a great family choice. The sunsets are also stunning.

Pentewan

A wide, east-facing bay stretching for over half a mile. With soft white shingly sand, clear waters, and shelter from prevailing winds, it’s a welcoming spot for swimming, paddleboarding, bodyboarding, and family beach days. Carlyon Bay, Par Beach or Mevagissey are only a short walk away.

Paignton Sands

An expansive stretch of golden sand and gentle waters, it's a favourite among visitors seeking traditional British seaside charm. The beach is backed by a vibrant promenade featuring Paignton Pier, amusement arcades, and a variety of cafes and shops, offering a lively atmosphere throughout the year.

Mothecombe

a stunning, sandy beach surrounded by rolling hills and woodland. It’s part of the privately owned Flete Estate, but open to the public on certain days, and is especially popular with families, paddleboarders, wild swimmers, and walkers.

Lyme Regis (Front)

Divided into two sections: a sandy area near the harbour (Lyme Regis Beach) and an adjacent pebble beach, separated by a stone jetty. Its central location and proximity to the town's amenities make it a bustling spot, especially during the summer months.

Lyme Regis (Cobb)

Celebrated for its unique blend of sandy and pebbled shores, historic harbour, and vibrant seaside atmosphere. The beach attracts a diverse crowd, including families, swimmers, fossil enthusiasts, and those seeking a classic British seaside experience.

Long Rock

A spacious stretch of sand and shingle situated between Penzance and Marazion. Offering panoramic views of Mount’s Bay and the iconic St Michael’s Mount, it's a favourite among locals and visitors alike.

Kingsand

With its blend of sand and shingle, the beach offers a tranquil setting that's popular with families, walkers, and those seeking a peaceful seaside experience. The beach is framed by historic cottages and offers stunning views across Plymouth Sound.

Hope Cove

A picturesque seaside village home to two beautiful sandy beaches – Inner Hope (Harbour Beach) the more sheltered and Outer Hope (Mouthwell Sands) the smaller but more popular. Both perfect for relaxed family days exploring rock pools at low tide.

Goodrington Sands

2025 Seaside Award Winner. Divided into North Sands and South Sands, both offering golden sands and gentle waters. Renowned for its scenic beauty with views across Tor Bay, it's a favourite among both locals and tourists.

Exmouth (West)

2025 Blue Flag Award Winner. A stunning two-mile stretch of golden sand, making it one of Devon’s most popular destinations. Backed by a wide promenade lined with shops, restaurants, and pubs, the beach offers a traditional seaside atmosphere with plenty of family-friendly entertainment.

Coastguards Beach

Tucked away at the mouth of the Erme Estuary, a quiet stretch of sand and shingle backed by countryside and woodland. Popular with walkers, nature lovers, and families seeking a peaceful escape from busier beaches, plus stunning views across the estuary and out to sea.

Dawlish Town

2025 Seaside Award Winner. A traditional seaside stretch, a mix of coarse sand and shingle, that runs alongside the wide Dawlish promenade, offering visitors easy access to sea and sand just steps from the town centre.

Coverack

A picturesque fishing village on the Lizard Peninsula boasting a charming pebble and sandy beach that is particularly popular with families, paddlers, kayakers, and anglers. Low tide offers a wide expanse of sand and rock pools.

Combe Martin

A sheltered cove known for its dramatic cliffs, clear waters, and family-friendly atmosphere. Ideal for paddleboarding, kayaking, and swimming, especially during low tide when rock pools emerge, providing hours of exploration for children and nature enthusiasts.

Lyme Regis (Church Cliff)

A tranquil, lesser-known spot located just east of Lyme Regis. Nestled beneath St Michael the Archangel Church, this beach offers a mix of sand and pebbles, with expansive rock ledges and numerous rock pools revealed at low tide. Popular with fossil hunters.

Charlestown

This blend of pebble and shingle is framed by rugged cliffs, making it popular with families, locals, and visitors who love exploring coastal heritage and enjoying scenic views. The calm waters make it ideal for swimming and paddling.

Cawsand

The sheltered bay provides safe conditions for beginners and families looking to enjoy gentle water activities. There is also the option to hire kayaks and paddleboards nearby. The beach is also popular stop for sailing boats and small craft, adding to its lively yet peaceful atmosphere.

Dawlish Warren

Perfect for swimming, paddleboarding and kayaking in the calm waters of the Exe Estuary. The beach's gentle slope and sheltered location makes it ideal for these activities, especially for beginners and families. 2025 Blue Flag recipient.

Croyde

One of the UK’s top surfing destinations, renowned for its consistent, powerful waves with best conditions at mid-to-low tide. Suitable for surfers of all levels, with surf schools and hire facilities for beginners. 2025 Blue Flag recipient.

Challaborough

A sheltered sandy cove on the South Devon coast, popular with families and a well-known surf spot for both beginners and experienced surfers. The area is also popular for diving, with several shipwrecks located along the nearby coastline. Awarded 2025 Blue Flag.

Budleigh Salterton

A 2025 Blue Flag beach and part of UNESCO World Heritage Jurassic Coast popular for families, swimming, paddleboarding, kayaking, windsurfing, and sea canoeing.

Blackpool Sands

Popular with families, Blackpool Sands provides plenty of facilities and activities, including a moored bathing raft, as well as paddleboards, kayaks available for hire. While the beach is shingle rather than sand, there are designated sandpits in the summer months to keep young visitors entertained.

Bigbury-on-Sea

With golden sands, crystal-clear waters, and a range of activities for all ages. Whether you want to relax on the beach, explore rock pools, enjoy water sports, or take in the stunning views from Burgh Island, this beach has something for everyone.

Bantham

With its perfect mix of soft sands, surf-friendly waves, family-friendly facilities, and breathtaking scenery, Bantham Beach is an ideal location for a memorable beach day.

Black Rock

At high tide this southern end of Widemouth Bay is cut off and is known as Black Rock due to its rocky outcrops.

Beach View

Also known as Sandy Acres it forms three miles of golden sands backed by towering sand dunes. stretching all the way to Gwithian and Godrevy.

Booby's Bay

Popular with experienced surfers, this large sandy beach becomes completely submerged at high tide with red flags two hours each side, but offers great rock pools as a result.

Crackington Haven

A picturesque shingle and sand cove, popular with families, swimmers and surfers of all levels. Low tide brings a wonderful array of rock pools and a great space for beach games.

Constantine Bay

The largest beach on Trevose Head, it's soft sand and shallow pools makes it a favourite with families, whilst a reef break at the southern end provides a popular surf spot.

Chapel Porth

A National Trust owned beach which transforms from a small pebbly cove into a long sandy beach at low tide. A popular spot for rock pooling, bodyboarding and surfing and walking the surrounding coastal paths.

Carbis Bay

A mile long crescent of soft, white sand. Sheltered from the wind, the water is calmer than neighbouring beaches so a good spot for young children to play in the shallows and people to try their hand at body boarding.

The My Coast Story

Beginning in Cornwall, the home of MyCoast, our aim is to help reduce the number of preventable incidents along our coastlines. With Cornish coastal drowning figures in double figures annually, we set out to educate, inform and improve beach awareness by enabling the public to access accurate, clear and well defined information, and warnings, to best inform their plans.

Championing sustainable coastal communities, we also hope to help tourists and locals exist harmoniously, enjoying the best of the coast together.

Following a successful pilot, MyCoast launched in summer 2024 with 60 RNLI lifeguarded beaches in Cornwall. Since June 2025 it is now across Cornwall, Devon and Dorset too, with new beaches being added regularly. MyCoast provides the right information for your chosen beach day. From dog poo bins to current coastal conditions, MyCoast has got you covered!
