Making it easy to enjoy the coast safely
My Coast Limited is developing a coastal safety app in collaboration with the RNLI, MET Office, Marine Coastguard, SWW and the Universities of Plymouth and Exeter. Our vision is to improve survival rates for coastal incidents and enable better decision making before entering the water or visiting the coast.
The app will link the user with real time, verified information to enable them to make informed decisions before visiting the coast or entering the water. The platform will act as a hyperlocal ecosystem, giving users information about the surrounding area, whilst unifying the emergency services with local businesses and the community.
Our Story
Jo had the idea for the My Coast app during the COVID19 lockdown in 2020. Having moved back to Cornwall with her 3 small children, and living in a caravan due to a home renovation project, they began to explore the Cornish coast daily.
Encountering a wealth of problems from dangerously miscalculating the tides to inaccurate facilities information online, Jo’s frustration germinated an idea to gather all the information she needed for a safe and fun day out in to one place.
This idea became the My Coast app; designed to enable Jo to take her three children Lizzie, Morwenna & George to the beach and to have the most enjoyable day possible, rather than a stressful day of wishing she was better prepared.

What the Professionals think.....
“In a world where people want and need information and advice at their fingertips, My Coast fills a big gap by providing a unified source that is a defacto personal travel and safety assistant. I can easily see My Coast as an essential companion for visitors to Cornwall as well as local residents.”
Malcolm Bell MBE, FRSA, FTS – Chief Exec, Visit Cornwall
“My Coast- it’s such an obvious, essential App, you can’t believe it’s not already out there! Hoping this App will become the ‘go to’ for any family planning a Cornish coastal visit”
Brendon Prince – 5x World Record Paddle Boarder, Founder of the Above Water charity
My Coast is a marvellous app that enables all those who love Cornwall and its stunning coastline to enjoy it informed by the most up to date information to ensure the safety of your family, the presence of local services and a myriad of other information and, most importantly opening up ideas that encourage you to explore. When you know somewhere well you often return time and again to the same much loved places…this app offers up temptation to travel more widely and to open you up to so much that you might otherwise have missed. To say this is much needed is an understatement and I will be using it”
Sir Tim Smit KBE – Founder of The Eden Project & The Lost Gardens of Heligan
“Areas like Cornwall, Devon and Kent have a particularly high rate of drowning incidences, usually due to a high rate of tourism and a mix of coastal and inland waters. RLSS UK urges as many people as possible to access advice and resources to learn how to stay safe. The majority of drowning incidents can be prevented. By learning to recognise to the potential dangers, and becoming confident in how to respond to an emergency, you could save a life”
Lee Heard – Charity Director – Royal Life Saving Society
“My Coast has the potential to become a one stop shop for visitors and residents looking to find relevant and helpful information about Cornwall’s beaches through an accessible, easy to use app. We are delighted to support the platform and are looking forward to working with the My Coast team as the project comes to life”.
